"As I have said before, when we take care of the puck and play solid defense then we can compete with anyone," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "Tonight we did not do that and we played right into BU's hands. It always comes back to the fundamentals and at least we righted the ship in the third period and we will hope to build on that tomorrow."

Bach got on the board 7:09 into the game on a shorthanded goal assisted by Rebecca Leslie. Natasza Tarnowski scored just over three minutes later and was followed by Bach's second of the game 13:48 into the period.

Vermont's best chance to get on the board came on a lengthy power play that began with just over five minutes left in the frame. Taylor Willard had multiple shots from the point and the Catamounts possessed the puck in the Terrier zone, but could not beat Corinne Schroeder.

Sydney Scobee made 11 saves in the period, including a breakaway save on Bach to keep the Catamounts within three.

Bach completed the hat trick less than two minutes into the second period as she cut towards the slot from the left boards and ripped a shot over Scobee's left shoulder. Leslie added her second of the night with 16:12 remaining to push the Terrier lead to 5-0.

The Catamounts got on the board with 7:43 remaining in the period. Alyssa Gorecki picked up a loose puck in the Terrier zone and ripped a shot on net. Gorecki then dove for the loose puck and tipped it past Schroeder for the goal. She was assisted by Ève-Audrey Picard and Katherine Pate.

The Terriers added two more goals in the second period, with Bach's fourth of the night and Abbey Stanley scoring her first of the season.

The Cats had two power plays in the first half of the final period, but were unable to get another goal past Schroeder. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the game despite chances at both ends of the ice.

Boston University outshot Vermont 30-26. Melissa Black made nine saves after entering the game just over halfway through the middle period. Scobee finished with 14 stops, and BU's Schroeder finished with 25 saves.

Vermont and Boston University take the ice tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. to close out the weekend series on Kids Day at Gutterson Fieldhouse. All kids wearing a hockey jersey will receive free admission. It is also Poster Day, presented by UVM Print and Mail, and the Catamounts will be available following the game for autographs.

The Windjammer and Upper Deck Pub is the presenting sponsor of the 2017-18 women's hockey season
