LAST TIME OUT | Richmond Highlights
UVM made history on Wednesday night with its first true road victory over an Atlantic 10 opponent since Feb. 26, 1976. Vermont beat Richmond 71-65 and improved to 6-1 on the year.
Ernie Duncan found his stroke with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. The redshirt junior also gathered five rebounds and dished out four assists.
Anthony Lamb followed with 14 points and six rebounds.
Trae Bell-Haynes rounded out three Catamounts in double figures with 10 points and dealt a game-high six assists.
RPI RANKINGS
After their 6-1 start, the Catamounts have earned three top-10 RPI rankings by some national outlets - No. 5 by ESPN, No. 7 by Fox Sports, and No. 8 by CBS Sports.
WHAT A RUN!
Since Dec. 29, 2017, Vermont has the best winning percentage and the third-most wins in Division I. UVM owns a 27-2 record and the pair of losses came against Purdue in last year's Big Dance and Kentucky in the 2017-18 regular season opener. The Cats' .931 winning percentage tops Gonzaga's .912 winning percentage. The 'Zags (31) and UK (28) are the only teams with more total victories than Vermont during the span.
MID-MAJOR RANKINGS
The Catamounts made a splash on the national scene and remained at the top of two mid-major polls this week. UVM received a vote in the
Associated Press Top-25 Poll, then moved up to No. 2 in the
CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll and climbed to No. 3 in the
MidMajorMadness.com Power Rankings.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
The Bison were picked as the unanimous preseason favorite in the Patriot League and landed a pair on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team - senior center and Preseason Player of the Year Nana Foulland along with senior forward Zach Thomas. Foulland sits second on the team with a 15.9 scoring average and has made a team-high 58.2% of his attempts from the floor. Thomas is one of the top scorers in the country after posting 25.4 points per game. He has logged two 30-point outings and three double-doubles this season. The 6-7 forward collected a career-high 19 boards in Bucknell's last game at St. Joseph's.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts are 2-0 against the Bison but Saturday night's matchup will be the first time the two programs have not met during a regular season tournament. Vermont opened the 1994-95 season with a 67-66 win over Bucknell at the Pepsi-Marist Classic in Poughkeepsie, New York. The last meeting occurred on Nov. 25, 2001 in the consolation game of the Mohegan Sun Classic as T.J. Sorrentine scored a game-high 23 points and guided UVM to a 77-60 victory.
WHO'S NEXT
