BURLINGTON, VT — Vermont fell to Iona 56-55 on Monday evening from Hynes Athletic Center. Yalden led the Catamounts with a team-high 17 points. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Gus Yalden scored a layup and a top-of-the-key three-pointer as Vermont opened with a 7-0 run in the first five minutes.
• At the 12-minute media timeout, Iona responded with a 6-0 run, but Vermont maintained a 7-6 lead.
• A basket from John Broom and a three-pointer by Momo Nkugwa put the Catamounts ahead 15-12 with eight minutes left in the first half.
• Daniil Glaxkov scored twice in the paint, extending the Catamounts' lead to 26-19 with two minutes remaining in the half.
• Vermont entered halftime leading 29-21, with Gus Yalden pacing the Catamounts with nine points.
• Iona opened the second half with a 6-2 run, but Vermont held a 31-27 lead at the 16-minute media timeout.
• John Broom secured an offensive rebound and scored a putback layup following a Momo Nkugwa miss, giving the Catamounts a 36-33 lead with 11:38 remaining.
• Vermont and Iona exchanged baskets before John Broom converted both free throws, putting Vermont in the bonus. The Catamounts led 45-43 at the eight-minute media timeout.
• Gus Yalden got a pass from Will Davies and made a top-of-the-key three-pointer to tie it at 48 with four minutes remaining.
• Yalden assisted Momo Nkugwa on a corner three, extending Vermont's lead to 53-48 with two minutes left.
• Gus Yalden scored a layup to put Vermont up with six seconds remaining, but Iona answered with a basket at 0.6 seconds for the win.
