LAST TIME OUT | Northeastern Highlights
UVM sophomore
Anthony Lamb set a new career-high with 32 points but the Catamounts fell to former America East rival Northeastern 71-67 on Saturday night. Lamb's career night came on 8-of-18 shooting and the sophomore was a perfect 15-for-15 at the charity stripe. He became the first UVM player to make at least 15 free throws in a game since teammate
Trae Bell-Haynes accomplished the feat against Western Carolina in the 2016 CBI Tournament.
Ernie Duncan added 14 points after making 5-of-8 attempts from the floor and dished out a pair of assists.
CARDINAL REUNION
Vermont head coach
John Becker and Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos were teammates at Catholic University from 1987-89. The former Cardinals played under Jack Bruen who would later take Colgate to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 1995 and 1996. In the head-to-head meetings between the former Cardinals, Becker has an unblemished 4-0 record since Patsos took over for the Saints in 2013-14.
SCOUTING SIENA
The Saints bring their 2-7 record to Catamount Country after dropping three out of their last four contests. Siena has been tenacious on the offensive glass as the group from the Capital City Region ranks second among Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams with 12.2 offensive boards per game. On the perimeter, the Saints are tied for fourth in the MAAC with a 36.7% three-point percentage. Junior guard Nico Clareth has posted 15.9 points per game to lead the Saints. Clareth has been the team's leading scorer in six games, including a 30-point outing in a tough 91-90 overtime loss at Lehigh on Nov. 17. Sophomore guard Ahsante Shivers follows with a 11.1 scoring average and he is one of five Saints recording at least 4.0 rebounds per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Despite trailing 12-18 in the all-time series, the Catamounts have made a valiant effort to even the score. Siena dominated the series from 1946-89 by winning 17 of the first 21 games, including 12 straight from 1983-89, but UVM has earned eight wins in the last nine meetings since the series was revisited in 2004. Last year, the Green and Gold cruised to a 76-60 victory which started a 21-game winning streak – the nation's longest such streak heading into the NCAA Tournament.
