ORONO, Maine – Sydney Scobee made 32 saves Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena, but the Catamounts could not find the back of the net and fell 2-0 to the Black Bears.

Maine improves to 11-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play while Vermont falls to 5-11-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Hockey East contests.

Maine got on the board with 6:49 into the opening period to take the early lead. Tereza Vanisova gained control of a rebound in front of the net and got the puck past Scobee. Stacey Brooke picked up an assist on the play. Â

The teams traded chances through the rest of the first, with Maine killing its only penalty and Vermont killing two Black Bear power plays. Scobee made 13 saves while her counterpart, Carly Jackson, stopped all five shots she faced.

Maine doubled their lead 18 seconds into the middle period when Anna Zikova received a pass from Stacey Brooke and patiently held the puck until she could slide it by a sprawled Scobee. Vanisova also picked up an assist on the goal.

The Catamounts had their second power play of the game following a body checking call against Zikova with 12:49 remaining. Despite chances and offensive zone puck possession, Vermont could not get one by Jackson. Â

UVM entered the third period trailing 2-0. Maine held a 23-12 shot advantage through the first 40 minutes with both Maine goals coming at even strength.

Vermont and Maine traded chances through the majority of the third with each team blocking multiple shots. UVM had two power plays in the last 10 minutes of the frame, but Jackson and the Black Bear defenders stood tall.

Vermont killed all three penalties in the game and failed to score on four power play opportunities. Scobee finished with 32 saves in the loss.
