CATAMOUNTS RECAP
Vermont lost the first game of the homestand in close fashion, 52-49 Â to Twin State rival New Hampshire on Thursday night. Despite losing the rebound battle and going just 1-10 as a team from three-point range, the Wildcats were able to earn their fourth win of conference play. UVM led for 27 minutes but relinquished that advantage in the final minute of the fourth quarter.Â
Hanna Crymble led the way for the Catamounts with her eighth game with 20 or more points scored this season. The two-time America East Player of the Week scored 20 points, recorded seven rebounds and picked up three steals in 34 minutes of action. Crymble has now reached double-figures in the scoring column in 16 of the 18 games that she has played this season.Â
Sydney Smith contributed with 11 points, three rebounds, an assist and a block as the only other double-figure scorer for UVM.
Cassidy Derda scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds to tie Crymble for the team-high in that category for the game.Â
As a team, the Catamounts finished the contest at 39% from the field, 27% (4-15) from three-point territory and 75% (9-12) from the free throw line.Â
 Â
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
Head coach Maureen McGarity is in her eighth season at the helm of the Wildcats and is a 2003 graduate of Marist College. She holds the UNH record for most wins in a season (26). McGarity guided the Wildcats to a 15-1 mark in America East play last season and a trip to the America East semifinals, where New Hampshire lost to Maine.
Â
This season, UNH is 12-5 overall and 3-1 to begin America East play. The Wildcats are 4-4 at on the road this season and have won two straight games (at Binghamton and vs. UMass Lowell).
Â
The Wildcats possess the best defense in the league, allowing an America East-low 55.7 points per contest. Four players on the New Hampshire roster score more than 11 or more points per game: Carlie Pogue (14.9 PPG), Olivia Healy (13.2), Brittni Lai (11.0) and Kat Fogarty (11.0).
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont leads the all-time series 41-38. The Catamounts lost the first 11 meetings all-time and won just one game before establishing a dominance over the Wildcats in the 1990s. UVM won 11 straight meetings between 2006-10.
Â
Last season, UVM lost both games to UNH: 57-49 in Burlington on Jan. 16 and by a score of 66-47 in Durham on Feb. 9, 2017. Vermont's last win in the series came in Durham on Feb. 26, 2016.
Â
In last year's game against UNH in Burlington, Smith and Crymble each scored 15 points for the Catamounts while
Hayley Robertson collected seven assists.
Â
SCOUTING HARTFORD
The Hawks are led by head coach Kim McNeil, who is in her second season at the helm of the program and is the eight coach in Hartford history. Last season, McNeil led Hartford to its winningest season since 2012-13.
Â
As of Jan. 17, the Hawks are 12-6 overall and 4-1 in America East play, with a 3-4 record on the road. Only four players average double-figures in the scoring column for Hartford: Lindsey Abed (13.3 PPG), Janelle Harrison (11.9), Sierra DaCosta (10.7) and Darby Lee (10.3).
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM leads the all-time series 36-34 dating back to 1996. The Catamounts snapped an eleven game losing streak to the Hawks with a 76-70 double-overtime win last season (Feb. 4, 2017).
Â
In that most recent win against Hartford, four current Vermont players scored double-figures in points: Crymble (20), White (16), Smith (12) and
Candice Wright (11). Crymble also led the way with 13 rebounds.
Â
HISTORY BEFORE OUR EYES
Candice Wright's five blocked shots against Rider on Friday, Dec. 1 placed her in sole possession for first all-time on Vermont's career blocks list. The junior broke Katie McNamara's '05 record of 102 blocked shots on her first rejection of the contest. Wright has 131 blocked shots during her career through the last game at Maine.
  Â
DIALING FROM LONG DISTANCE
With her four three-point field goals at UMBC, Smith sits fourth all-time with 172 career makes from long distance. She surpassed her former teammate, Kayla Burchill '15 (170).
Â
Additionally, White is now tied for seventh all-time in program history in three-point field goals with Dawn Cressman '03. The redshirt-senior co-captain has made 139 triples during her time in Burlington.Â
Â
As a team, Vermont is averaging just over seven three-point makes per game. Out of UVM's 954 field goal attempts through the first 17 games of the season, over 44% have come from behind the three-point arc. Individually, the most proficient three-point shooting Catamounts have been Crymble (37%), Derda (33%) and White (32%).
