BURLINGTON, Vt. — Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach Maureen Magarity announced Tuesday morning that Lauren Hammersley has been hired as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
"Lauren is an exceptional addition to our staff, and I am excited to work alongside her," said Magarity. "She has a tremendous reputation as a recruiter and mentor. Lauren brings a high basketball IQ and a true passion for player development. She will be instrumental in the continued growth of our program!"
Hammersley arrives at Vermont after spending the past two seasons at Lafayette College as a Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach. During her tenure with the Leopards, she helped the program host and win a playoff game for the first time since the 2021-22 season. In her first year at Lafayette, the Leopards improved their conference win total to six games.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity Coach Magarity has given me to come to the University of Vermont," said Hammersley. "I am super excited to be working for a proven winner in Coach Magarity at a place with a rich history of success! I can't wait to get started and continue to build on the championship culture of Vermont women's basketball! Go Cats!"
Prior to Lafayette, Hammersley, a Breezy Point, New York, native, worked as an AAU coach and personal trainer with Crown Basketball and the Long Island Lightning. She also gained operations experience as co-director of a youth basketball camp in Breezy Point in 2021 and 2022, overseeing all aspects of camp organization and management.
Hammersley graduated from Assumption University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in psychology after serving as captain of the women's basketball team during her senior season. After her four-year career in Worcester, Mass., she later earned her master's degree in childhood education from Adelphi University, where she played for the Panthers as a graduate student for two seasons. During the 2022-23 campaign, Hammersley led the Northeast 10 Conference in three-point percentage, shooting 41.0% from beyond the arc.
