CATAMOUNTS RECAP
After losing three consecutive games in conference play, the Catamounts took care of business at home with a 53-47 win over Hartford on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 21).
Â
UVM possessed its largest lead at halftime all season (34-13) but ended up relinquishing that advantage with about five minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Vermont went on to ice the game at the free throw line to pick up its third America East win of the season.
Â
Hanna Crymble led the way for the Catamounts 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals. The two-time America East Player of the Week has now reached double-figures in the scoring column in 17 of the 19 games that she has played this season, including each of her last 16 games.
Senior co-captain
Sydney Smith contributed with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. She finished the game going 7-12 from the field.
Â
Off the bench,
Hayley Robertson provided a major spark. The junior guard pitched in with 14 points (3-4 3PT), three rebounds and two assists. Additionally,
Candice Wright recorded six rebounds in her 20 minutes in reserve.
Â
As a team, the Catamounts finished the contest at 49% from the field, 28% (5-18) from three-point territory and 100% (8-8) from the free throw line.Â
 Â
SCOUTING ALBANY
Head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee is in her second season at the helm of the Wildcats and is a 1997 graduate of West Liberty (she also received her master's degree from Eastern Kentucky in 1999). Last season she led the Great Danes to a 21-12 record (12-4 in America East) and the program's sixth consecutive America East title/NCAA Tournament berth.
Â
This season, Albany is 17-3 overall and 6-1 to begin America East play. The Great Danes are 7-1 at home this season and have won six straight games since losing the conference opener at Hartford on Jan. 3.
Â
Albany ranks first in the conference in scoring (69.5 PPG), second in field goal percentage (41%), second in rebounds (767) and second in team free throw percentage (74%) behind Vermont (76%).
 Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
Albany leads the all-time series 20-16. The Great Danes have won 18 straight meetings since Jan. 2011. Vermont won 16 of the first 18 matchups between 2002-11. Last season, the Catamounts lost in the America East quarterfinals 65-45 to the Great Danes in Portland, Maine.
Â
Last year's game in Albany resulted in a 64-53 Great Danes win on Jan. 26, 2017. Three current UVM players reached double-figures in points and grabbed at least five rebounds in that game: White (14 pts, 5 reb), Crymble (13 pts, 5 reb) and Smith (11 pts, 9 reb).
Â
HISTORY BEFORE OUR EYES
Candice Wright's five blocked shots against Rider on Friday, Dec. 1 placed her in sole possession for first all-time on Vermont's career blocks list. The junior broke Katie McNamara's '05 record of 102 blocked shots on her first rejection of the contest. Wright has 131 blocked shots during her career through the last game against Hartford.
  Â
DIALING FROM LONG DISTANCE
With her four three-point field goals at UMBC, Smith sits fourth all-time in program history for three-pointers made in a career for a Catamount. She surpassed her former teammate, Kayla Burchill '15 (170). Smith now sits at 173 three-pointers after a deep-make against Hartford.
Â
Additionally, White is tied for seventh all-time in program history in three-point field goals with Dawn Cressman '03. The redshirt-senior co-captain has made 139 triples during her time in Burlington.Â
Â
As a team, Vermont is averaging just under seven three-point makes per game. Out of UVM's 1,041 field goal attempts through the first 19 games of the season, just under 44% have come from behind the three-point arc. Individually, the most proficient three-point shooting Catamounts have been Robertson (39%), Crymble (36%) and
Cassidy Derda (32%).
 Â
