LAMB ON A TEAR
In the first two games of the season,
Anthony Lamb is the America East frontrunner with 21.5 points per game and six blocks. He opened the regular season at Boston University on Friday with his fifth career double-double (19 points, 14 rebounds). He became only the fourth Catamount to register a double-double in a season opener since the turn of the century. He followed up with a team-high 24 points against second-ranked Kansas on Monday night. Lamb's 43 points through the first two games of the season are the most by a UVM player since Evan Fjeld scored 45 at the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
DIALING LONG DISTANCE
UVM has two of the top three-point shooters in America East -
Ernie Duncan and
Stef Smith. Duncan has scored the second-most long-distance attempts (7) in the league and ranks third in three-point percentage (36.8%). Smith is tied for third in the conference with five triples and sits fifth on the three-point percentage list (41.7%).
CATS IN REGULAR SEASON HOME OPENERS
Vermont has won four straight regular season home openers and seven out of the last eight overall. The four-game streak is the most successful stretch for UVM since producing seven consecutive victories from 1988-94. Since 1960, the Cats are 41-17 in regular season home openers at Patrick Gym. Last year, UVM beat UMaine-Fort Kent 90-54 behind a team-high 13 points from
Samuel Dingba as four Catamounts reached double figures.
SCOUTING NVU LYNDON
The Hornets were picked to finish sixth in this year's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll and bring their 1-2 record to Burlington. NVU Lyndon dropped its season opener to Vermont Tech 91-71 last Thursday but rebounded 24 hours later against St. Joseph's 110-81. The Hornets fell last time out 103-55 to former NAC rival New England College on Monday. The Hornets lead the NAC in total points (236), rebounds per game (51.0), and assists per game (20.3). Damon Denteh has buried 11 three-pointers and has dished out 17 assists in the early going to lead his conference peers. He has averaged 14.7 points per game and hit 4-of-7 long range attempts against the Pilgrims. Corey Frost ranks second on the team with a 12.0 scoring average and racked up 22 points in the win over St. Joseph's.
