GOING FOR THE A-10 SEASON SWEEP
A win on Tuesday night would give the Catamounts their first ever season sweep of the Atlantic 10. Vermont beat George Washington 69-53 on Nov. 28 at the front end of a three-game road trip to the nation's capital, then capped off the swing with a 72-67 victory at George Mason on Dec. 3. UVM has already completed another conference season sweep – the Colonial Athletic Association after topping Towson and Northeastern.
8-3 STARTS
Vermont is off to an 8-3 start for the first time during the
John Becker era. The 8-3 start is the 19th in school history and first since 2010-11. The last two 8-3 starts have resulted in a postseason tournament berth - NCAA Tournament in 2004-05 and NIT in 2010-11.
FIVE-GAME WINNING STREAK
The Catamounts are in the midst of a five-game winning streak during non-conference play for the second straight season and fifth time since the 2001-02 campaign. In the five-game streak, the Cats have a +7.6 scoring margin and have held their opponents to 29.9% (29-for-97) from three-point land.
Anthony Lamb has fueled the squad with a team-best 20.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. The junior forward has recorded nine of the team's 14 blocks during the five-game set.
NET RANKINGS
In the latest NCAA NET rankings (formerly RPI) of all 353 Division I teams, UVM has the best ranking among America East teams at No. 105. Stony Brook trails in second at No. 144 while UMass Lowell follows in third at No. 211. Hartford has landed in fourth at No. 223 and UMBC rounds out the top-five at No. 254.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
Prior to an 80-62 setback at 17th-ranked Buffalo on Dec. 8, the Bonnies had won their last three games. St. Bonaventure has the fifth-best scoring defense in the A-10 with 64.8 points per game allowed. The Bonnies have also hit 34.7% of their long-distance attempts - the fifth-best average in the league. Jalen Poyser has paced the team with a 15.5 scoring average. In his last three games, he has posted 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Kyle Lofton has added 13.3 points per game. The freshman has tallied double figures in eight of his 10 games played as a rookie.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Tuesday night will be the third meeting between the Cats and Bonnies and the first game played on the hardwood of Patrick Gym. In 2015, Vermont could not keep up with sharp-shooting St. Bonaventure team and fell 80-68. Last year, the Green and Gold were seconds away from pulling off an A-10 season sweep until Matt Mobley drained a three-pointer at the buzzer and handed UVM an 81-79 setback.
