LAMB'S MONSTER NIGHT
Anthony Lamb is coming off a career-high 42 points in Tuesday's 83-76 win over St. Bonaventure. The 42-point effort is the most points scored by a UVM player since Taylor Coppenrath netted 43 points in the 2004 America East Championship Game. It is also the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and the seventh-best mark in Division I this season.
LAMB NARROWS SIGHTS ON CAREER MILESTONE
Lamb enters Friday night's contest needing 30 more points to reach the 1,000-career point plateau. The junior forward has played in 65 career games and would become the 39th member of the 1,000-point club. He will also be the 12th Catamount to reach the milestone during his junior season or sooner and has the potential to be the 12th player in program history to reach the milestone in 70 or fewer games.
MID-MAJOR POWER RANKINGS
Friday night will feature two of the top mid-major teams in the country, according to this week's
CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25. The Catamounts jumped up to No. 23 after receiving votes in the previous four polls while the Bison are ranked No. 11. In the
MidMajorMadness.com weekly power rankings, Vermont received 25 votes and sit three spots away from the top-25. Like the CollegeInsider.com poll, Lipscomb is locked in at No. 11.
BATTLE OF PRESEASON FAVORITE: PART IV
Vermont and Lipscomb were picked to win their respective conferences in the preseason rankings. The Bison are the last of four teams on UVM's non-conference docket selected as the preseason frontrunner. The Cats fell 84-68 to Big XII favorite and current No. 1 team in the land Kansas on Nov. 12, then beat Harvard 71-65 on Dec. 8. One game later, the Green and Gold took down Northeastern 75-70 on Sunday.
9-3 STARTS
Vermont is off to an 9-3 start for the first time during the
John Becker era. The 9-3 start is the 14th in school history and first since 2010-11. The last two 9-3 starts have resulted in a postseason tournament berth - NCAA Tournament in 2004-05 and NIT in 2010-11.
CATS VS. THE ASUN
UVM and Lipscomb will square off for the first time on Friday night, but the Catamounts have played four games against Atlantic Sun opponents. The Green and Gold own an unblemished 4-0 mark against the ASUN thanks to four meetings with NJIT between 2007-10.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
The Bison have the top scoring offense in the Atlantic Sun at 87.0 points per game. Lipscomb also leads the conference in free throw percentage (76.7%), assists per game (18.6), and steals per game (8.5). Garrison Mathews owns the third-best scoring average in the ASUN at 17.5 points per game. The senior has produced back-to-back 20-point efforts and has shot 50.0% (8-for-16) from three-point land in the two-game stretch. Rob Marberry has added 15.9 points per game and has logged double figures in all nine games played this year.
