LAST TIME OUT | UNH Highlights
The Catamounts used a balanced scoring attack to grind out a 71-58 win over twin state rival New Hampshire on Thursday night. Vermont had three players reach double figures behind a game-high 14 points from
Cam Ward. The senior set a season high with seven rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.
Everett Duncan and
Drew Urquhart followed with 13 points apiece. Duncan matched a career high, set last time out against UMass Lowell, on a perfect 3-for-3 night from long range and made all four attempts at the charity stripe. Urquhart approached a double-double with a team-high eight rebounds.
XFINITY DAY
Sunday's matinee with the Hawks is Xfinity Day, presented by Xfinity. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Rally towel.
EYEING THE REGULAR SEASON CROWN
UVM is one win away from clinching at least a share of the America East regular season title. A victory over Hartford and a loss by UMBC to Albany would give the Cats the outright regular season championship. A conference regular season crown would be the eighth in program history - 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2017. With an eighth title, Vermont would tie Boston University for the second most in America East history, trailing only Northeastern (10).
NATION'S ONE AND ONLY
After Rhode Island fell to St. Bonaventure on Friday night, the Catamounts take over with the longest overall winning streak (15 games) in the country for the second straight season. Last year, UVM took the longest streak into the America East Tournament after Gonzaga lost at BYU in the regular season finale. With URI's loss, the Cats are also the only remaining undefeated Division I team in conference play.
RACE FOR 1,000
Vermont has two players closing in on 1,000 career points –
Ernie Duncan and
Payton Henson. Duncan is only 23 points shy of joining the 1,000-point club. Combined with his scoring totals from Tulane, Henson needs 41 points to surpass the mark. The redshirt senior scored 309 points in two seasons with the Green Wave before transferring to Catamount Country where he has racked up 650 points.
STREAKY CLEAN
In addition to the longest overall winning streak in Division I, UVM will try to extend a pair of streaks on Sunday. The Cats have won 33 straight regular season conference games, the longest active regular season conference winning streak in the country. Vermont's 22-game home winning streak is the nation's second-longest streak behind only Cincinnati (39 games).
SCOUTING HARTFORD
The Hawks own a 8-4 conference record and sit third in the league standings. In America East play, Hartford has the third-best scoring offense at 72.3 points per game. The Hawks rank second behind UVM in field goal percentage (47.4%) and field goal percentage defense (42.3%) against conference foes. J.R. Lynch has scored double figures in seven straight games, including 17.0 points per game in his last five outings. Jason Dunne leads the league with a 35.1% three-point percentage in conference play.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts have controlled the all-time series with a 48-23 edge against the Hawks. Since beating Hartford in the 2003 America East Semifinal, the Cats are 30-2 against their conference counterpart and have won nine straight meetings. During the
John Becker era, the Green and Gold are 13-1 with an average victory of 15.0 points per game.
