AP Release
The senior joins UVM legends Taylor Coppenrath and Marqus Blakely as the only players in school history to receive AP All-America honors twice.
Bell-Haynes finished his UVM career with 1,629 points and climbed to No. 8 on the program's all-time scoring list. The 6-2 guard cracked the top-five all-time with 518 career assists. Like Coppenrath and Blakely, the Toronto, Ontario native garnered back-to-back America East Player of the Year honors. He also collected U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District I Team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District I honors.
He averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game during his senior campaign. Bell-Haynes logged eight 20-point efforts this year and set career highs in scoring average, field goal percentage, assists per game, and rebounds per game. In conference play, the floor general registered 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game and scored 10-plus points in 15 out of 16 league contests.
Bell-Haynes guided the Catamounts to 27 wins, their second-highest single season win total, trailing only last year's historic 29-win campaign. UVM posted a 15-1 league record and captured its eighth America East regular season crown in program history. The Cats were on the national radar and received votes in the AP Top-25 Poll three times. UVM extended its record-setting regular season conference winning streak to 33 games. Vermont recorded its 10th straight season with at least 20 victories - only one of 10 Division I programs in the country to accomplish the feat. The Green and Gold earned their 10th consecutive postseason appearance after clinching a berth in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
Bell-Haynes will play in the 2018 Reese's NABC College All-Star Game at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the site of this year's Final Four, on Friday (March 30) at 4:30 p.m. EST. The all-star showcase will be nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network. He will also compete in inaugural 3X3U National Championship in San Antonio this weekend. Bell-Haynes along with senior teammate
Payton Henson, UNH's Tanner Leissner, and UMass Lowell's Jahad Thomas will compete as Team America East against seniors who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility from all 32 Division I college basketball conferences in a three day, 3-on-3 tournament.
