LAST TIME OUT |Â Maine Highlights
UVM earned its 16th trip to the America East Semifinal in the last 17 years after holding off eighth-seeded Maine 75-60 on Saturday night in the America East Quarterfinal.
Trae Bell-Haynes poured in a game-high 20 points. The senior hit three triples, handed out four assists, and collected three rebounds.Â
Payton Henson matched his career-high and senior teammate with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting.Â
Drew Urquhart recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and gathered a game-high 12 boards.
Â
TWO CATS REACH MILESTONES
Bell-Haynes and
Cam Ward reached career milestones in the quarterfinal win over Maine. Bell-Haynes became the eighth Catamount to score over 1,600 career points while Ward set the school record with his 138th career game played.
Â
AMERICA EAST AWARDS
Vermont had six players and its head coach earn All-America East honors last Thursday. The Catamounts had three major award winners –
John Becker (Co-Coach of the Year), Bell-Haynes (Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference), and Ward (Sixth Man of the Year). Duncan was named to the All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Urquhart joined Duncan on the All-Conference Team and Henson garnered Third Team All-Conference honors.
Stef Smith landed on the All-Rookie Team.Â
Â
EMPIRE STATE OF MIND
Since the start of last season, Vermont is 17-1 against schools located in New York. The run includes victories over non-conference foes Marist, Hofstra and Siena while topping league rivals Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook.
DOWNTOWN DUNCAN
Duncan is one three-point field goal away from tying Bernie Cieplicki for fifth on the all-time three-pointers list. He has made 227 during his career and he is also three away from tying Mike Trimboli in fourth place.
Â
HIGHEST SINGLE SEASON WIN TOTALS
Saturday's quarterfinal win helped the Catamounts secure the second-most victories (26) in a single season in program history, trailing only last year's historic 29-win season.
Â
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Stony Brook advanced to the semifinal round after upsetting No. 4 seed Albany 69-60 in the America East Quarterfinals last Saturday. The Seawolves had a pair of All-America East selections - Elijah Olaniyi and Akwasi Yeboah. Olaniyi was named America East Rookie of the Year. The freshman averaged 7.5 points and 3.8 rebounds during the regular season. He posted 8.5 points per game and shot 54.5% (6-11) from the floor against the Catamounts this year. Yeboah joined Duncan and Urquhart on the All-Conference Second Team. He ranked seventh in the league with a 15.3 scoring average and dropped 13.5 points per game on the Green and Gold during the regular season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and Stony Brook will meet for the sixth Âtime during the conference tournament and for the third time in the semifinal round. The Seawolves hold a slight 3-2 edge in the playoffs, but the Cats have controlled the overall series with a 28-11 record. Since falling 80-74 in the 2016 America East Championship Game at Stony Brook, UVM has reeled off four consecutive victories thanks to back-to-back regular season sweeps. This year, the Green and Gold beat the Seawolves 73-62 at home back in January and handed SBU a 69-60 loss on Long Island two weeks ago.
Â
ENTRANCE TO THE GAME
To comply with the America East Tournament policies, fans will not be admitted to the building from the outside stairway in the parking lot between Patrick Gym and Gutterson Fieldhouse. Fans who park on this side of the building may enter through the loading dock area and go up the stairs to the gym. There is an elevator down the hallway that can bring fans upstairs to the Patrick Gym lobby (right next to the ticket counter).
Â
PARKING
For the convenience of our fans attending men's basketball games at Patrick Gym, a shuttle will run constantly from the Jeffords parking lot (also known as the water tower lot) to the front of Patrick Gym. By taking the shuttle, fans can get back to their vehicle and on the road without sitting in as much traffic.
Â
Fans with a disabled parking placard or a Victory Club VIP parking pass should have these out and ready when approaching the parking lot while on Spear Street for both your convenience as well as the efficiency of the UVM Police, security and Transportation and Parking staff members. You may be directed to a different entrance (turning off Spear Street into the parking area) once all other parking areas at Patrick are full but you will be able to access your respective parking area. Please be sure to note parking signs to know when the Gutterson parking garage is full and all remaining traffic is being directed to the Jeffords lot.
