LONG BEACH, Calif. & Albany, N.Y. – The University of Vermont Catamounts completed California competition at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State University, and the UAlbany Spring Classic on Saturday. The Beach Invitational saw four Catamounts post New England qualifying marks and
Morgan Ferland won her first discus event in Albany.

Samantha Sayer (17:23.99) took 23rd In last night's 5,000m run at the Mt. SAC Relays, qualifying for the event in May's New England Championships.
In the 1,500m run,
Sunny Nagpaul posted a mark of 4:43.11 to take 40th in the women's race.
Tyler Marshall (3:57:43) led the Catamount contingent in the men's race and finished 37th overall.
Chris Gish (3:58.01),
John Benner (3:58.61), and
Aaron Lucci (4:01.51) followed shortly behind Marshall.
Julia Nugent (1:03.90) and
Alex May Curtis (1:03.96) both posted a New England qualifying mark in the 400m hurdles.
Dan DeBlieck (54.37s) posted a New England mark in the men's 400m hurdles to finish 20th.
Curtis (15.66s) finished 78th in the 100m hurdles and DeBlieck (15.25s) finished 35th in the 110m hurdles.
Justin Liechty (49.56s) missed the New England mark by two-hundredths of a second and finished 40th. Freshman
Will Juniper (50.99) finished 70th in the same race. Both runners concluded Vermont's trip to California in the 200m dash, with Liechty (22.56s) finished 42nd and Juniper (23.27s) finishing 66th.
In Albany,
Morgan Ferland won the discus throw with a mark of 38.64m (126-9) and took seventh in the shot put (11.78m, 38-7.75).
DJ Snide posted a mark of 15.31s in the 110m hurdles to take sixth overall.
Neville Caulfield (9:32.45) took the top spot in the steeplechase with teammate
Ross Elkort (9:59.92) following in fifth.
Ava Meyer (2:21.65) finished third in the women's 800m run with
Phoebe Koski (2:23.40) and
Isabel Cardi (2:23.41) following in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Jessica Cartier posted a time of 1:06.38 in the 400m hurdles to take second place. The women's 4x100m finished sixth with a mark of 52.64s.
Anya Gorodentsev,
Danielle Kelly,
Allie Olson, and
Isabel Soule ran in the relay for Vermont. Gorodentsev posted a mark of 4.96m (16-3.25) in the long jump to finish ninth.
The Catamount group of
Ali Attenasio (3.25m, 10-8),
Marina Cannon (3.10m, 10-2), and
Grace Murphy took third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in the women's pole vault.
Alex Parasky posted a mark of 6.31m (20-8.5) to win the men's long jump.
Shane O'Connor reached 13.36m (43-10) in the men's shot put to finish sixth. O'Connor also finished ninth in the discus throw and 15th in the hammer.
Luke Petela (14:56.63),
Will Hopkins (15:16.96), and
Brian Wilson (15:22.61) swept the top-three spots in the men's 5,000m run, in that order.
Jack Carmody (15:30.08) finished ninth with
Matt Hynes (15:35.18) and
Ian Denis (15:35.81) following in 10th and 11th place, respectively.
UVM competes in a tri-meet at UMass with New Hampshire next Saturday (April 28). The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Amherst, Massachusetts.
