WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
Vermont (5-11, 1-3) returns home Wednesday for a matchup with New Hampshire (4-13, 1-3) as they continue conference play at 7 p.m. The matchup can be heard on AM 620 WVMT with Maura Sheridan on the call. WRIGHT SETS ANOTHER BLOCK RECORD
Candice Wright is Vermont's all-time block leader with 192 career blocks. On Saturday at Hartford she had two blocks to bring her season total to 51, setting a new single season program mark. She is averaging 3.2 blocks per game, which is tied for fourth in the NCAA. As a team Vermont is eighth in the NCAA averaging 5.9 blocks per game.
LARKINS AND HANDY COMING TO PLAY IN JANUARY
Josie Larkins and
Lauren Handy have been key contributors for the Catamounts in conference play. Larkins has averaged 7.3 PPG, and was Vermont's leading scorer with 14 points in the Catamounts conference win over UAlbany. Handy has averaged 8.3 PPG coming off the bench for Coach Kresge in America East action.
CRYMBLE LEADING THE WAY
Junior forward
Hanna Crymble leads the Catamounts in scoring with 15.4 PPG. She is fourth in America East in scoring. She has been Vermont's leading scorer in 12 of the Catamounts 16 games. She is shooting 52.3% from the field this season which is the second-best mark in America East. She is also shooting 85.7% from the free throw line, which is the best mark in the league.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
Last Wednesday the Wildcats earned their first conference win of the season defeating UMass Lowell 56-53 on the road. Freshman guard Kali Grimm scored a career-high 15 points behind 4-of-8 shooting from three.
On Saturday Stony Brook defeated UNH 82-63 in Durham. For the second straight contest Grimm was 4-for-8 from downtown. Junior guard Caroline Soucy was the leading scorer for UNH with 17 points, she also hit four three-pointers in the game. Grimm was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday for her efforts against Stony Brook and UMass Lowell.
New Hampshire's leading scorer Ashley Storey, a junior forward, has missed the last two games for the Wildcats. She is out with a foot injury and is expected to miss the next six weeks.
Like the Catamounts New Hampshire faced Dartmouth, Holy Cross and South Florida in the non-conference. UNH fell to the Crusaders and Bulls but unlike Vermont they defeated Holy Cross 74-62.
SERIES HISTORY
Vermont leads the all-time series 42-39 against the Wildcats With 81 matchups this is Vermont's second most common opponent behind Maine. Last season the two teams split their games against one another, with each team winning on the road. Vermont defeated UNH 58-53 in Durham, and the Wildcats won 52-49 in Burlington.
RED FOX CONNECTIONS
Vermont head coach
Alisa Kresge and UNH's coach Maureen Magarity played together at Marist College. Magarity was a senior during Kresge's freshman campaign in 2003-04. The Red Foxes were 20-11 that season winning the MAAC tournament and regular season championship. With the MAAC tournament championship the Red Foxes advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. During the 2004-05 campaign Magarity was an assistant coach during Kresge's sophomore season.

Save the date for our annual Rally Against Cancer game, presented by Inspired Closets, Saturday January 26 when your Catamounts host Stony Brook at 2 p.m. Vermont will be wearing special edition lavender jerseys this year, the color the represents the fight against all cancers. Jerseys will be auctioned off following the game, with proceeds going to the UVM Cancer Center. Fans who donate $5 or more to the UVM Cancer Center at the door will receive a free ticket to the game.
