LOOKING FOR WIN NO. 200
Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach
John Becker is only one Division I win away from 200 for his career. Becker will become the third coach in school history to reach the 200-career win plateau and he will become the quickest to surpass the mark. He currently owns a 199-86 Division I career record. Tom Brennan earned his 200th-career win in 480 games and John C. "Fuzzy" Evans achieved the milestone in 379 games.
6-2 START
UVM is off to a 6-2 start for the third time under Becker, all within the last four seasons - 2017-18 and 2016-17. The Catamounts will look to grab their first 7-2 start since 2010-11.
LAMB VS. THE IVY LEAGUE LAST YEAR
Anthony Lamb produced two of his highest single-game point totals against Ivy League opponents last year. He held a 30.7 scoring average and 7.7 rebounding average in three games versus Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale last season. He set a career-high with 34 points against the Bulldogs on Nov. 21, 2018, then broke it again with 37 points against the Crimson on Dec. 8, 2018. He capped off the Ivy League season sweep with 21 points on the Big Green in the non-conference finale.
MID-MAJOR POWERS
Vermont and Yale have been two of the more prominent mid-major powers in recent years. Since 2015-16, the two programs have combined to win five regular season conference championships, three tournament crowns, and have made four trips to the NCAA Tournament. The regional foes also have six combined 20-win seasons.
FROM THE CATS TO THE 'DOGS
Tobe Carberry, an assistant coach at Yale, played for the Catamounts from 1996-00. Carberry currently ranks No. 21 on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,235 points. He averaged 11.4 points per game and was an All-Conference selection as a senior. He served as a team captain in 1999-00 and led the team in rebounding as a junior.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs bring a 5-3 record into the weekend after an 81-61 rout against Bucknell on Tuesday in the NIT Season Tip-Off Championship Game. Yale is one of the top defensive teams in the country. The Bulldogs have held their opponents to a 34.4% field goal percentage, have averaged 33.0 defensive rebounds per game, and have swatted away 41 shots - all three rank in the top 15 nationally. The Bulldogs are paced offensively by junior Paul Atkinson at 16.9 points per game. The 6-10 forward has reached double figures each time out this season and has shot 65.0% (26-for-40) from the floor in his last four games. Azar Swain follows with a 15.8 scoring average, including 19.7 points per game in his last four outings. He has also attempted the third-most three-pointers (74) in the nation.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Cats have won the last three meetings with the Bulldogs and have pulled ahead in the all-time series 17-13. The Green and Gold will look to win their fourth game in a row against the Bulldogs for the first time since 1992-96. Last year, UVM earned a 79-70 win at Patrick Gym behind Lamb's 34-point effort.
