SUCCESSFUL DECADE
The Green and Gold will close the books on a very successful decade Tuesday. UVM has won more games (240) than any America East team and New England program over the last 10 years. UConn is the closest regional foe with 213 victories while UAlbany has tallied 190 wins among league rivals. Vermont has also won the most regular season conference titles (5) and tournament championships (4) in America East. In Burlington, the Cats boast an impressive 121-26 (.823) record at home since the calendar flipped to 2010.
FACING THE ALMA MATER
Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach
John Becker will face his alma mater on Tuesday afternoon. The bench boss earned his master of science degree in information systems, with a focus in business technologies, from George Washington in 2001.
GOING FOR ANOTHER SWEEP
Last year, Vermont completed its first ever Atlantic 10 season sweep after beating George Washington, George Mason and St. Bonaventure. This year, the Cats have a chance to complete another A-10 sweep after edging the Bonnies 61-59 in the season opener.
SCOUTING GW
The Colonials have reached the win column in three out of their last four games, including a 78-65 victory over Longwood on Saturday. On the perimeter, GW has held its opponents to just 45 made triples, the fourth-lowest mark in the nation. Armel Potter has scorched opposing defenses of late. The redshirt senior has posted back-to-back double-doubles and has averaged 19.7 points over his last eight games. Jamison Battle and Maceo Jack follow with an 11.5 scoring average each. Battle dropped 18 points against Harvard on Dec. 21, but was held to only six points on Saturday. Jack has come on strong recently with 14.0 points per game in his last four outings, including a team-high 20 points versus Longwood.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM and GW will play one another for the second consecutive season and third time overall. The Cats won both of the prior meetings - an 83-72 victory in the Rainbow Classic on Dec. 27, 2008, hosted by the University of Hawaii, and a 69-53 win last year in Foggy Bottom. In last season's victory, the Catamounts used a late 18-0 run to pull ahead for good.
