BURLINGTON, Vt. – UVM women's soccer seniors
Christina Barry and
Brooke Jenkins have been invited to the 2019 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA). The announcement was recently by NEWISA.
The 2019 NEWISA Senior Bowl will be hosted at Merrimack College on Saturday (Dec. 7) at 12 p.m. The contest will feature senior student-athletes from New England colleges and universities across all three NCAA divisions. The Catamount duo are among 23 Division I players to earn a selection and two of only eight players to represent the America East Conference.
Barry started every game as a defender for the Catamounts this season. She helped the back line secure four clean sheets. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native tallied four points as a senior with one goal and two assists. She netted a goal at Binghamton on Sept. 22., then was credited with an assist at Bryant and on the eventual game-winning goal at UMBC.
As a redshirt senior, Jenkins served as a co-captain and started 11 games for the Green and Gold. The midfielder from Smithfield, Rhode Island scored one goal this year – an equalizer at conference rival Hartford on Oct. 3. She was selected to the America East All-Academic Team after accumulating a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a graduate student. In the career ranks, Jenkins finished seventh with 71 games played and six game-winning goals.
Vermont posted a 3-10-3 overall record in 2019. The Catamounts reached the win column against Sacred Heart, Army, and UMBC. Despite the struggles, UVM battled hard in each match as seven of the 10 setbacks were decided by a one-goal margin.
