Men's Hockey Hosts Boston University for Hockey East Weekend Series

MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Vermont (12-16-2, 5-13-2 HEA) hosts Boston University (11-15-3, 9-8-2 HEA) for a pair of Hockey East games this weekend at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Friday's game is USA Hockey Night, presented by Handy Toyota. Saturday's game is UVM's annual Green Out the Gut game, presented by Casella. Both games are slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.
 
A free audio and video stream will be available for both games through CatamounTV and the links below. The voice of Catamount hockey, Michael Lehr, will be on the call for both games on WVMT 620-AM and CatamounTV.

HOCKEY WEEK ACROSS AMERICA BOGO OFFER
USA Hockey is celebrating Hockey Week Across America this week, an annual week that celebrates the players, coaches, officials, and local rinks that make the game possible. Friday is Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day.
 
Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey to Gutterson Fieldhouse as Vermont hosts Boston University to take advantage of a special buy one, get one ticket offer. The offer is good for all-ages, while supplies last starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Gutterson Fieldhouse ticket office. Seat locations are predetermined.
 
PROMOTIONS
Friday's game is USA Hockey Night, presented by Handy Toyota. Free rally towels and t-shirts will be handed out at the door courtesy of Handy. All fans who bring a can of food to the game on Friday will receive a free lunch box, courtesy of McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli. 
 
Saturday's finale with the Terriers is the annual Green Out the Gut game, presented by Casella Waste Management. Casella is handing out free neck buffs to the first 500 fans in attendance. Casella is running a waste audit on Saturday in collaboration with UVM Recycling to compare with previous Green Out the Gut games. Additionally, Saturday's game will see Allen Pool and Spas give away a free hot tub to a lucky fan.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Boston University enters the weekend with an 11-15-3 overall record and 9-8-2 Hockey East mark. The Terriers are 5-7-1 in games played this calendar year. Their most recent win over UConn last Saturday (Feb. 16) snapped a six game losing streak. The Terriers rank sixth in Hockey East with 2.69 goals per game and tied for eighth with 2.97 goals against per game.
 
Freshman Joel Farabee leads the team in points (27) and is tied for the team lead in goals with junior Patrick Curry (11). Junior Dante Fabbro leads the team with 19 assists. Junior Jake Oettinger has started 26 games for BU this season. He is 17th nationally with a .923 save percentage and 41st nationally with a 2.65 goals against average.
 
LEKKAS IN CATAMOUNT COUNTRY
Lekkas passed Rob Madore '12 and Tom McNamara '77 and now has the eighth most saves in a single season in Vermont history (913). He is looking to post the fifth 1,000-plus season in Catamount history. Lekkas also passed Tom Draper '87 for fourth in program history in career saves. The Elburn, Illinois native enters the weekend with 2,813 career saves.
 
The junior netminder is two appearances shy of becoming just the fifth Vermont goalie to play in 100 or more career games. Lekkas is currently fifth in program history with 98 career appearances.
 
HOBEYLEKKAS | Vote for Stef
Stefanos Lekkas is one of 83 nominees for the 2019 Hobey Baker Memorial Award fan vote. Voting is open to fans through March 10, with a maximum of one vote allowed per day. Lekkas is second in the NCAA in saves per game (30.4) and third in total saves (913). He ranks sixth in the nation in save percentage (.930).
 
Lekkas is one of eight goaltenders nominated for the award. Ryan Miller was the last netminder to win college hockey's top individual prize as a sophomore at Michigan State in 2001. Vermont's most recent Hobey Baker finalist was Viktor Stalberg in 2009.
