Adam Krug Named Associate Head Coach for Men’s Hockey

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont men's hockey Head Coach Steve Wiedler announced on Friday morning that Adam Krug has joined his staff as an Associate Head Coach. Krug comes to Catamount Country after two seasons as Assistant Coach of the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League.

"Adam's resume speaks for itself in terms of what he has accomplished in our game," said Wiedler. "This is a home run hire for our program. His AHL experience, NCAA championship pedigree, ability to build relationships with and develop players is at the top tier of our profession.

"Personally, I've known Adam for the better part of a decade," continued Wiedler. "With that in mind I have no doubt that this is the right person for our team culture and greater Vermont community. His value system and how he operates on a daily basis directly align with what we are building here. I couldn't be more excited to welcome Adam, Lindsay, Carter, Addison and Jack to Catamount Country."

Krug worked primarily with the forwards and the power play with the Condors. He aided in the development of Matthew Savoie, who was named to the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic and Noah Philp, who went on to play 30 games with the Oilers over the past year. His work aided in James Hamblin having a career season in 2025-26 with 27 goals and Viljami Marjala finishing in top 10 for assists in the AHL.

Before his time with the Edmonton Oilers AHL affiliate Krug was one of the most successful Division III head coaches over 10 years at his alma mater Adrian College. In his time with the Bulldogs, he compiled a record of 229-52-14 (.800). During his tenure, he led the Bulldogs to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, won five NCHA championships, and an NCAA National Championship in 2022. He was a six-time NCHA Coach of the Year and in 2022, he was awarded the Edward Jeremiah Award as the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year.

"Joining the UVM hockey program is an incredible honor and opportunity," said Krug. This program has such rich tradition, and I can't wait to bring my passion and experience to help our players win games, compete for championships, and develop into professionals. I'm incredibly thankful to our Head Coach Steve Wiedler for bringing me on board. My family and I are thrilled to call Burlington home and become an active part of this great community."

Prior to Adrian, the Livonia, Michigan native was an assistant and associate coach with the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League where he helped the team capture the 2014 Clark Cup. He also played a role in getting 30 players scholarships at the Division I level and four players drafted in the NHL.

Krug played Division I hockey at Wayne State from 2004-06 before transferring to Adrian for his final two seasons of eligibility. He was the first-ever captain in Bulldogs program history. In just two seasons at Adrian, Krug ranks seventh all-time in school history with 129 points.
