BOSTON, Mass. – A pair of Catamount juniors and one senior were named to the 2019 America East Swimming & Diving All-Academic Team. The conference announced the academic team on Wednesday afternoon. Juniors
Sierra Sexton and
Sophia Smith along with senior
Julia DeGregorio were all named to the All-Academic time for the first time in their respective careers.

America East All-Academic Team
Sexton earns All-Academic honors for the first time in her career. She placed second in the 50 free at the 2019 America East Championships to earn All-Conference recognition. The Portland, Oregon holds a 3.50 GPA as a Biochemistry major at the University of Vermont.
Smith captained the team as a junior and earned America East Elite 18 honors at the 2019 conference championships for her efforts in the water and in the classroom. She holds a 3.89 GPA as an Elementary Education major. The Westwood, Massachusetts native placed eighth in the 200 free and tenth in the 500 free at the America East Championships
DeGregorio, the lone Catamount senior recognized by the conference, captained the team and earned her first All-Academic recognition from the conference. She holds a 3.50 GPA and will graduate this May with a degree in Business Administration. At the 2019 America East Championships, the Dover, New Hampshire native placed sixth in both the 100 fly and the 200 fly.
To be eligible for the All-Academic squad, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average, and be a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee made up of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives.
For the seventh straight season, UVM finished third overall at the 2019 America East Championships with 510 points. Sexton earned All-Conference honors after placing second in the 50 free. Vermont placed three swimmers on the All-Academic team for the second straight season.
Vermont was one of three teams represented on the America East All-Academic team. UMBC led the conference with four selections while Vermont and New Hampshire each had three athletes recognized.
