NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The top-ranked offense in the NCAA did not disappoint as the Hobart Statesmen pulled away in the second half to take a 17-11 win over Vermont on Saturday at New Canaan High School.

Hobart improves to 4-1 on the season while Vermont drops to 3-3 overall heading into America East conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ben French kicked off a high-scoring first quarter with the afternoon's first goal with 9:47 remaining in the quarter. Vermont and Hobart traded goals throughout the quarter as the Statesmen took a 6-5 lead into the first break. Eleven different players found the back of the net in the quarter.
- David Closterman's first goal and McConvey's second tally to open the second quarter tied the game at 7-7. However, three Hobart goals to end the half pushed the lead to 10-7.
- Hobart opened the scoring in the third quarter and won the period 5-2 to take a 15-9 lead into the final quarter. Closterman scored the first Catamount goal of the half with 8:46 on the clock before French tallied his second of the game with 1:16 remaining.
- Jack Knight scored with 5:07 left in the game and Closterman added his second of the half with 1:22 remaining to bring the final score to 17-11 in Hobart's favor.
GAME NOTES
- Hobart won the battle at the X, taking 20-of-31 faceoffs. The Statesmen held a 41-27 advantage in ground balls and a 58-38 shot advantage.
- Junior goalie Nick Washuta set a new season-high with 18 saves in the loss. He nearly matched his career-high of 19 saves set last year at New Canaan High School against Virginia.

Vermont opens America East conference play with a trip to UMBC next Saturday (Mar. 16). The game against the Retrievers is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland.
