COACH'S QUOTE
"We still have a lot to learn and we have to go through these trials and tribulations to be a championship caliber team," head coach Chris Feifs said. "We certainly have to take our lumps today and get better from it. Right now we have to focus on getting healthy, watching the film, learning from it, having a great week of practice, and giving Penn our best shot."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts jumped to a 5-0 lead halfway through the first quarter with goals from Dawes Milchling, Liam Rischmann, Rob Hudson, and a pair from David Closterman.

  • As a heavy fog rolled over Virtue Field, Stony Brook outscored Vermont 3-1 in the third quarter to make it 8-5 heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Sal Iaria tallied Vermont's lone third quarter goal with 4:27 to play in the quarter.
  • Layton Harrell scored on Stony Brook's first EMO of the game with 12:33 left in the fourth quarter and David Estrella tallied another 12 seconds later off the ensuing faceoff to cut the Cat lead to one goal.
  • Ben French pushed the Catamount lead back to two with 11:35 to play, but from there, Harrell tallied another pair of goals for a fourth quarter hat trick. He scored the game-winning goal with 3:24 to play and gave Stony Brook its first lead of the game.
