WILTON, Conn. – Vermont freshman
David Closterman led the Catamounts with four goals, but the fourth-ranked Penn Quakers held off a late Catamount charge to take a 12-10 win in the 2019 regular season finale at Wilton High School in Wilton, Connecticut.

Penn wins its ninth straight game to finished the 2019 regular season with a 9-3 record (6-0 Ivy). Vermont drops to 7-6 overall (4-2 AE). Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Closterman gave Vermont a quick 1-0 lead, Penn rattled off five straight goals, capped by Adam Goldner's man-up tally with 3:43 left in the opening quarter, to take a 5-1 lead. Ben French netted his 24th goal of the season to make it 5-2 Penn at the end of the opening quarter.
- Penn and Vermont alternated goals in the second quarter, starting with Sam Handley's goal with 13:49 remaining and ending with Dawes Milchling's goal with seven seconds left in the half. The Quakers took an 8-5 lead into the break.
- Milchling and Sal Iaria found twine early in the third quarter to cut the Penn lead to a single goal, but Sean Lulley made it 9-7 with 3:30 to play in the third quarter.
- After Simon Mathias made it 10-8 Penn with 13:38 to play in the fourth, Closterman tallied a highlight reel goal from behind the net to cut the lead to one. Senior Jack Knight evened the score with 6:45 to play with his first of the game and 12th of the season.
- The Quakers added a pair of goals in the final five minutes, both from Handley, to take a 12-10 non-conference win over the Catamounts.
GAME NOTES
- Closterman tallied a career-high four goals in the loss. He matched a career-high with four points. It marks his third straight four point effort and fifth of the 2019 season.
- Nick Washuta finished the game with 13 saves, the ninth game this season with 10 or more saves.
- Milchling tallied his 10th career hat trick against Penn.
- Iaria matched a career-high with three assists and four points.

Vermont meets UAlbany (5-8, 4-2 AE) in the America East semifinal round next Thursday (May 2) at 4:30 p.m. from LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York. Vermont is the second seed in the tournament, the highest seed in program history.
