STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Vermont tallied the game's final four goals to break a 9-9 deadlock and claim a 13-9 win over UAlbany in the America East semifinal game Thursday afternoon at Stony Brook.

With the win, Vermont improves to 8-6 on the season and will play in the America East Championship game for the second straight season on Saturday (May 4). Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany scored a pair of transition goals late in the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead into the first break. Ben French and Thomas McConvey tallied the first two Catamount goals.
- After an early second quarter goal from Davis Diamond pushed the Great Dane lead to 5-2, senior Dawes Milchling and freshman Thomas McConvey scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to cut the UAlbany lead to one goal.
- Trailing 6-4 late in the half, Milchling scored his second of the game with 1:40 to play and sophomore Alex Semler tallied his first career goal with 1:29 remaining to tie the game at 6-6.
- After allowing an early second half goal, Vermont scored three straight goals to take a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter. Jack Knight, McConvey, and Rob Hudson found the back of the net in the scoring run.
- UAlbany's Diamond cut the lead to a single goal with 1:42 left in the third quarter and Ron John tied the game at 9-9 with 13:46 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- The Catamounts ended the game on a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 final over the Great Danes. Knight scored his second goal of the game to kickstart the run and McConvey capped the run with his third of the game with 4:55 left in the game.
GAME NOTES
- Vermont's man-down defense was 8-for-9 against the Great Dane man-up offense that entered the game ranked 22nd in the NCAA.
- Nick Washuta recorded 15 saves in the win. He allowed just one fourth quarter goal and three second half goals.
- Semler finished the game with 13 ground-balls, crushing his previous career-high of nine, set in the regular season meeting against UAlbany.
- Knight's pair of goals pushed his season total to 14, a new career-high.
- Milchling matched a career-high with four goals and six points. He also matched his previous season-high of 36 points, set in 2016.
- UVM makes its second consecutive trip to the America East Championship game and third of the last four seasons.
- Vermont takes its second win of the season over UAlbany after just four wins over the Great Danes in the last 25 meetings.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont, bringing this year's total to 53 wins and $5,300.
