"We are so pleased that Yolanda has earned this opportunity to compete at the World Championships in Doha," said head coach
Matt Belfield. "She has worked so hard for so many years to reach this world-class standard. Her steady improvement while here at UVM, and her meteoric rise under the coaching of Amy and Andrew Begley at the Atlanta Track Club has been a joy for us to follow, especially this past year with her records and victories. Yolanda is an inspiration to the UVM T&F and XC programs; and is an example of what can happen when you surround yourself with dedicated people and keep working hard, day in and day out. For me personally, I am just so happy that Yolanda can keep chasing the goals she had when she arrived here in Vermont in 2010."
Currently running with the Atlanta Track Club, Ngarambe achieved the 1500m world standard at the 2019 Wieslaw Maniak Memorial meet. Her qualifying time was a personal record and helped her secure second place in the event.
Ngarambe currently ranks 21st in the world in the women's 1500m run and has previously reached as high as 16th. She set the Swedish Indoor Mile national record with a time of 4:28.30 in January 2019 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.
While at Vermont, Ngarambe registered school records in the indoor mile (4:46.72), outdoor 800m run (2:06.43), and 1500m run (4:24.02) and contributed to the outdoor 4x400m relay (3:49.94) and indoor 4x800m relay (8:51.91) records. She won America East Championships in the 800m run (Indoor 2012, 2013, 2014; Outdoor 2013, 2014) and the 4x800m relay (Indoor 2013, 2014). Ngarambe was also a New England Champion in the mile in 2014 and was a two-time NCAA East Preliminary Round Qualifier.
The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships will take place at Khalifa International Stadium from September 27 and October 6 in Doha, Qatar.
