Madeleine Kovacs and senior captain
Sophia Smith finished just five seconds apart in the 2019 CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Championship on Saturday.
Kovacs finished 58th overall and Smith followed in 59th place in a field of 76 swimmers at Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kansas.

Kovacs posted a time of 1:13:53.1 while Smith completed the 5k course in 1:13.58.1. Texas A&M's Taylor Pike won the women's race with a time of 1:03:48.0. Click

The 2019 CSCAA Open Water Championship, in its fourth year, saw the Rice University women and the Grand Valley State University men win the team event.
Kovacs, Smith, and the Catamounts open the 2019-20 regular season at Forbush Natatorium on Saturday, Sept. 21. The home-opening meet is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Northeastern Huskies visiting Burlington.
