Espeland was one of nine athletes chosen to represent the United States National team. Another 10 athletes represented the country on the USA Development Team.
The Stafford, Virginia native helped the USA tie Belarus, 2-2, in the tournament opener last Thursday (Jan. 2). Espeland made several saves to keep Belarus from extending its lead. Both the Belarus goals came off penalty corners.
Team USA then fell to Austria (Jan. 3) and the Czech Republic (Jan. 4) before closing the tournament with a 2-1 win over SV Arminen. The United States finished the 2020 Rohrmax Cup in seventh with a 1-1-2 overall record.
Espeland is no stranger to international play, having previously donned the red, white, and blue for the United States Under-21 team at the 2019 Croatia Cup. The Under-21 team went 5-0-1 in that tournament, only losing to the United States National Team.
Two years ago, Espeland earned a spot on the US roster for the 2018 Indoor World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The United States went 1-2-3 in that tournament with Espeland playing in a pair of games.
The junior made her international debut at the 2017 Indoor Pan-American Games and helped the United States win gold for the first time.
In Catamount Country, Espeland has started every game for the Green & Gold in the last two seasons. She is ninth in program history in career wins (14) and currently sits third in program history with a 2.27 career goals against average.
