The award is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson, who won 776 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were served at Arizona. During that stretch, he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, four Final Four appearances and a national championship in 1997. The 2019-20 Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award will be announced in April in Atlanta, Georgia – the site of this year's NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship.
Lamb is one of 30 student-athletes to receive the nod, but just one of 10 mid-major players – Malachi Flynn (San Diego State), Jordan Ford (St. Mary's), Isaiah Miller (UNCG), Carlik Jones (Radford), Nathan Knight (William and Mary), Sam Merrill (Utah State), Filip Petrusev (Gonzaga), Grant Riller (Charleston), and Obi Toppin (Dayton).
In 16 games, the 6-6 forward has averaged 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. The Rochester, New York native has notched 23 points in three out of this last five outings. In Wednesday's America East opener, he racked up 23 points, hit four long-range attempts, collected seven rebounds, and doled out five assists. He also ranks near the top of the conference leader board in blocks (24), scoring, and rebounding.
Vermont returns to action at UMBC on Saturday (Jan. 11). The matinee will get underway at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase through
