CATS THROUGH 21 GAMES
The Catamounts have jumped out to a 15-6 start or better for the fourth consecutive year and 10th time since the 2001-02 campaign. From the previous nine occasions, the Green and Gold have made a postseason tournament eight times with trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2019, 2017, 2005, and 2004.
HIGH FIVE!
UVM is in the midst of a season-long five-game winning streak. The Cats have a +18.4 scoring margin, +12.0 rebounding margin, and have dished out 14.4 assists per game. Three players have also averaged double figures during the run -
Ryan Davis (12.6 ppg),
Anthony Lamb (12.4 ppg), and
Stef Smith (11.0 ppg).
THE REINFORCEMENTS
In the last four games, Vermont's reserves have averaged 33.2 points per game including a combined 42-point outburst against UMass Lowell on Saturday. It was the highest point total by a UVM bench since Jan. 8, 2017 when the subs racked up 47 points on Hartford. The reinforcements have scored 30-plus three times during the four-game set.
STARING DOWN NO. 6
Lamb enters Wednesday's tilt 21 points shy of moving up to No. 6 on Vermont's all-time scoring list. Lamb has netted 1,723 career points and would pass Tony Orciari (1997-2001) for the near top-five spot.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats boast a 7-1 record at Lundholm Gym this season and have won their last two conference games over UMBC (W, 65-60) on Jan. 18 and Binghamton (W, 77-69) on Saturday. UNH is the top team in the nation at cleaning up the defensive glass, averaging 31.1 defensive rebounds per game. Sean Sutherlin eats up most of the rebounds with a conference-best 9.1 boards per game and the junior has averaged closed to a double-double with 13.5 points per game. Sutherlin and Nick Guadarrama lead the league in double-doubles (6). Guadarrama paces the team with a 14.2 scoring average, the 11th-best average in America East right behind Smith (14.4). In 18 games played, he has failed to reach double figures just three times.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The twin state rivalry is the longest standing series in school history at 154 games as the Cats lead the Wildcats 105-49. The first meeting was a 28-3 win by the Green and Gold in Burlington on Dec. 8, 1906. More recently, UVM has won the last 11 meetings over UNH which is the team's second-longest active winning streak against a conference opponent. Last year, the Catamounts beat the Wildcats 73-59 in Durham then used a balanced attack for a 73-44 victory in Burlington.
