"We feel incredibly fortunate to have begun this collaboration with the UVM Men's Hockey Team," said Chelsea Reynolds, Mentor Teacher in Older North, CCS. "When the connection with the hockey team was made, what began with the children's interest in playing hockey on our playground soon took off into an investigation of the technical side of this sport. It's wonderful to be able to utilize the resources that the University has to offer; the hockey team and those associated with hockey have been so supportive of the children's investigation of hockey."
"It's always great to have the kids come and see the locker room and see how excited they are," said junior goaltender
Matt Beck. "They want to ask so many questions and try on all our gear and are so obsessed with hockey. Any way we can help grow the game in Vermont and in our community we are all for it. It also brightens our day as well and makes us remember to have fun and enjoy what we do."
The older toddlers have already toured the locker room and player equipment with junior goalie
Matt Beck and players from the women's team. They also saw the Athletic Medicine room with Head Athletic Trainer
Matt Bain.
In upcoming visits, they will visit the Zamboni room, the skate shop, and the laundry room.
Gutterson Fieldhouse is a regular stop for children of all ages that attend the UVM Campus Children School. Classes regularly come to practice during their morning outings and bang on the glass encouraging the Catamounts. This more formal partnership is an extension of those visits derived from questions the older toddlers asked about the equipment and student-athletes.
At the conclusion of the partnership in late March the team and Rally will host a social gathering for all of the children at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
