ERVING AWARD FINALIST
Anthony Lamb was named one of 10 candidates for the 2020 Julius Erving Award Small Forward of the Year Award on Wednesday. The award recognizes the top small forwards in college basketball. Lamb, along with Boise State's Derrick Alston Jr. and Gonzaga's Corey Kispert, are the only mid-major players to make the list.
EIGHT-GAME RUN
The Catamounts have won their last eight games, which is one of the longest active streaks in Division I. The eight-game run is tied for the seventh-longest overall streak and also tied for the eighth-longest conference streak. In the eight wins, Vermont has a +17.6 scoring margin and has shot 47.1% from the floor as a team. The Cats have averaged 8.3 triples and 14.3 assists per game.
10-PLUS
Vermont has canned at least 10 triples in back-to-back games against UAlbany and Maine. The last time UVM hit 10-plus threes in consecutive games was last year against Maine and UAlbany, ironically.
60 AND UNDER
In nine conference games, the Catamounts have held their league rivals to 60 points or fewer six times. The rest of America East has eight combined games.
SCOUTING HARTFORD
The Hawks had won their last three games before running into a 70-59 setback at UMBC on Wednesday night. Hartford has the second-best conference scoring defense, behind Vermont, at 61.3 points per game allowed. In his first season in America East play, graduate transfer Malik Ellison has the fourth-best conference scoring average (17.6). In his last four games, Ellison has dropped 20.7 points per game with two double-doubles. Hunter Marks and Moses Flowers have added 11.0 points per game apiece. Miroslav Stafl is the fourth Hawk to average double figures this season with 10.1 points per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM has dominated the all-time series with Hartford. The Catamounts are 51-24 against the Hawks, including 16-2 during Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach
John Becker's nine-year tenure. In the 16 victories, the Cats have won by an average of 14.9 points per game. Last month, the Green and Gold showed off their depth as 10 players scored a point in a 74-57 win at Patrick Gym.
