BURLINGTON, Vt. – Women's basketball senior
Hanna Crymble and Field Hockey junior
Kailyn Myshrall were announced as the 2020 recipients of the UVM Women's Center Outstanding Athlete Award.
The recently renamed University of Vermont Women and Gender Equity Center confers its annual awards to recognize the contributions and activism of women and allies on the UVM campus. The Outstanding Athlete Award honors female student-athletes who have made significant achievements in athletics, academics, and service to the campus community.
Crymble was named to the 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Basketball Third Team, becoming just the fourth Catamount in program history to receive the honor. A graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences, she majored in biochemistry with a 3.81 GPA. Crymble finished her career at UVM with 1,752 points, sixth all-time at UVM. She was the 20th player in America East history to reach 1,750 points. She is the all-time leader at UVM in free throw percentage at 84.8 percent. She is also finished second all-time with 106 career blocks.
"Hanna has been a remarkable leader for the UVM athletic department and for the Catamount community," stated Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator
Cathy Rahill. "Her fierce, bold presence on the court complemented by her high level of academic success and sincere involvement in community service serve as a powerful example for young girls in how to break through barriers and achieve their dreams."
Last week Hanna won UVM Athletics' J. Edward Donnelly Award at the 2020 Rally Awards. The award is given to the female senior student-athlete who displayed the greatest accomplishments in individual athletic performance and contributed to their overall team performance.
Myshrall has become a prominent leader on campus, in the America East conference and on the national stage with the NCAA. This year she served as Vice Chair on UVM's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition, she served as America East's SAAC representative at the 2020 NCAA Convention in Anaheim, California. She is also an integral part of America East's #BetterTo9ether and #BetterTo9ether Beyond sports campaign which aim to help address the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly in these unprecedented times.
"Kailyn is a change agent," said Rahill. "As a gifted leader, she is creating bold initiatives with the UVM athletic department to unravel the intersections around female identity, power and disparity. Her work to promote women in sport is fresh, strategic and impactful both on the local and national stage."
On May 8, it was announced that Myshrall has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee. The 17-person committee is comprised of athletic directors from league members, select conference staff and one student-athlete. The Legislative Committee's primary responsibility is to review and make recommendations to the Division I Council regarding the merits of proposals developed through the shared NCAA governance process.
Last week Kailyn was honored at the 2020 Rally Awards as a co-recipient of the women's Jeff Stone Memorial Award. The award honors student-athletes for their involvement in campus leadership and/or community service activities. It is bestowed upon those who represent the highest ideals of educational sport and have had a significant and lasting impact upon the UVM community.
