COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a very good test for us tonight to go against one of the better teams in the NCAA," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "For the first half of the game, we were unable to get a meaningful shot on goal, but we actually felt we were in the game. By limiting Quinnipiac to seven shots in the first period, we felt that our defensive game was right. In fact, our goaltender played remarkably and our penalty kill was once again excellent. Unfortunately, two costly mental lapses resulted in goals against, and we couldn't find a way to score. Next weekend will see lineup changes, and this will be a very, very competitive week in practice."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a tight-checking first period Tyler Harmon made seven saves for the Catamounts. UVM was two-for-two on the penalty kill, keeping everything to the outside. The Bobcats weren't able to generate on a shot on either power play chance.
- The Bobcats opened the scoring the just past the midway point of the second period. Ethan De Jong cut to the net and fired a hard-low shot that Harmon padded aside, unfortunately for Vermont the rebound came right to Bongiovanni and he stashed it home for his first goal of the season.
- With 27 seconds left in the middle frame a huge rebound in the Quinnipiac zone sprung the Bobcats Ty Smilanic on a breakaway. Harmon made a huge pad save along the post to keep it a one-goal game headed to third.
- Michael Lombardi scored an insurance marker for the Bobcats 6:54 into the third. In transition Lombardi cut to the left and picked the top right corner for his second goal of the year.
- Quinnipiac's Dylan St. Cyr made eight third period saves as the Catamounts pushed in the third period to earn his sixth career shutout and first with Quinnipiac.
