BOSTON – Vermont men's soccer sophomore
Zach Barrett has been named America East Defensive Player of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Monday afternoon
Barrett scored the clinching goal in UVM's 2-0 win over UAlbany on Saturday (Oct. 23). The sophomore's tally was his second of the season, coming in the seventh minute against the Great Danes. Barrett has registered a goal in each of the his two career games against UAlbany.
The Vermont defender played all 180 minutes in the Catamounts' two games against Dartmouth and UAlbany. Barrett played a key role on the back line as Vermont yielded only one shot on goal in two games.
Barrett is the second Catamount in as many weeks to receive a conference award.
Alex Nagy was named America East Offensive Player of the Week on October 18. Barrett is also the second Catamount to be named Defensive Player of the Week by the conference.
Nate Silveira has received the weekly defensive award twice this season.
Vermont clinched a berth into the America East Tournament with its home victory on Saturday. The Catamounts are currently second in the conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
UVM hosts UMass Lowell in the regular season home finale on Thursday (Oct. 28) at Virtue Field. The conference matchup will take place under the lights with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at
