FRANKLIN PARK, Mass. – The Vermont men's and women's cross country teams concluded the 2021 season with matching 24th-place finishes in the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday.
Jane Leighton led the UVM women (671 pts).
Wyatt Matyas was the frontrunner for the Vermont men (678 pts).

"Jane ran exceptionally well today, maybe the best race of her collegiate career," said head coach
Matt Belfield. "She stayed aggressive throughout the 6k and it paid off with a big-time top-30 result. Glad to see her finish her cross country experience so well. Wyatt also ran very well in his first 10k effort. He was locked in the whole way."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leighton logged a 21:23 pace in the 6k to finish 27th in the overall competition. The Vermont senior was fourth among America East competitors in the women's 6k.
- Lily Porth was the second Catamount to cross the finish line, posting a mark of 23:03. The sophomore was closely followed by Meaghan Alba (23:34).
- Andie Cornish and Sadie Holmes rounded out the UVM scorers on the women's side, with times of 23:42 and 24:17, respectively.
- As the top Vermont finisher on the men's side Matyas logged a time of 32:42 for 98th overall. Owen Amsden finished shortly after with a time of 33:00.
- Ian Denis (33:30), Christian Groff (34:12), and Davis Cote (34:25) also scored for the Catamounts in the 10k.
