WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Vermont (6-6-1, 4-3-1 HEA) returns home this weekend to host Syracuse (5-6-2, 4-2-0) in non-conference action from Gutterson Fieldhouse. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, both games will be broadcast live for free at CollegeSportsLive.

PAIR OF CATAMOUNTS SHARE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
After combining to score 12 points over the weekend at Merrimack
Theresa Schafzahl and
Maude Poulin-Labelle were named Co-Hockey East Players of the Week. They are the first Catamounts to receive the honor since Poulin-Labelle did on January 11, 2021 after a weekend sweep at UConn.
HISTORIC AFTERNOON FOR SCHAFZAHL
On Sunday senior forward
Theresa Schafzahl became the first Catamount in program history to record five points in a game. She had a goal and four assists in UVM's 5-2 win over the Warriors. Nine different Catamounts from 1999 to 2019 registered four points in a single game, including current defenseman
Sini Karjalainen (10/25/19) but
Schafzahl is the first to ever have five points.
POULIN-LABELLE LEADS CATAMOUNTS OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Senior defenseman
Maude Poulin-Labelle leads the Catamounts in scoring with five goals and five assists this season. Last weekend against Merrimack she had three goals and two assists. On Sunday, she recorded the second hat trick of her career. She's the fourth Catamount in program history to record two or more hat tricks in her career. Allie Knowles, Dayna Colang and
Ève-Audrey Picard were the other three.
OFFENSE CLICKING
Last weekend the Catamounts scored five goals in a game for the first time this season and did so in back-to-back games. In addition, UVM scored two power play goals for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon at Merrimack.
PK PROWESS
The Catamounts own the nation's 14th ranked penalty kill this season, boasting an 87.9% success rate. Vermont has only allowed four goals while shorthanded this season, and has scored once while on the penalty kill –
Natálie Mlýnková against RPI (Oct. 2). The 2018-19 Catamounts finished the season with the nation's top penalty kill at 87.4%.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse comes to Burlington having won three of its last four games. Last weekend they fell 1-0 hosting Penn State and then defeated them 6-3 in the second matchup. Graduate student Victoria Klimek was honored as CHA Player of the Week after posting her second career hat trick in the second game. Senior goaltender Arielle DeSmet was named CHA Goaltender of the Week after posting a career-high 50 saves in that win.
Syracuse boasts the fifth best penalty kill in the country. They have allowed just three goals in 33 opportunities this season. Senior forward Abby Moloughney leads the team in scoring with six goals and seven assists for 13 points this season.
SERIES HISTORY
UVM leads the all-time series against the Orange 3-2-0. Four of the five matchups have been one-goal games. UVM has won the last three contests. In their last matchup UVM defeated Syracuse 2-0 at Gutterson Fieldhouse during the 2018 Windjammer Classic.
Theresa Schafzahl scored the game-winning goal in that contest.
CZECH CATAMOUNTS QUALIFY FOR THE 2022 OLYMPICS
Sammy Kolowrat '19, Natálie Mlynková and Tynka Pátková qualified for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics last weekend in Chomutov, Czech Republic. The Czechs went 3-0 in Group C to qualify defeating Poland, Hungary and Norway. Kolowrat scored two goals in the three games, Mlynková posted one goal and three assists and Pátková posted an assist.
