WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Riding a four-game winning streak the Catamounts are hitting the road once again as they travel to face Boston University (4-3-0) in a two-game Hockey East series. KNOCKING ON THE TOP-10 DOOR
Vermont and Boston University are currently sitting just outside of the USCHO Division I Women's Poll. Both teams are tied for 12th in the ranking with one vote. Hockey East currently has three teams in the Top-10: No. 3 Northeastern, No. 6 Boston College and No. 10 Providence. BU and Vermont have yet to face any of the three ranked conference rivals yet this season.
MCPHERSON NAMED TO WOMEN'S GOALIE OF THE YEAR AWARD WATCH LIST
First-Year
Jessie McPherson has been named to the watch list for the inaugural Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award, as announced by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association last Friday.
Just three games into her career as a Catamount McPherson is 3-0-0 and posted shutouts in her first two collegiate games. She is second overall in Division I in save percentage (.973) and goals-against average (0.65). She was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on January 11 and the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on January 5.
BALANCED OFFENSIVE ATTACK FROM THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont is averaging 3.17 goals per game, good for third in Hockey East and sixth in the NCAA. UVM is also seventh in the NCAA averaging 34.83 shots per game. Vermont has scored 19 goals this season with 14 different skaters scoring.
ALL-STAR FORM CONTINUES FOR POULIN-LABELLE

Maude Poulin-Labelle became the sixth Catamount in program history to be named a Hockey East All-Star. This season she has picked up right where she left off, she leads the team in scoring with nine points and is a team-best +9. She is tied for sixth in the NCAA averaging 1.5 points-per game, and is the leader amongst all Division I defenseman. She is also the team leader in shots on goal with 22.
On January 11, she was named Hockey East Player of the Week after picking up a goal and three assists in Vermont's weekend sweep at UConn.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Boston University is 4-3-0 on the season after completing a sweep of Merrimack last weekend. The Terriers beat the Warriors 6-0 at home and 2-0 on the road behind shutout performances from BU's Corrine Schroeder and Kate Stuart. The Terriers have given up just two goals over its last four games.
Junior forward Courtney Correia leads the team in scoring with two goals and six assists for eight points. Correia had two goals and two assists in the Terriers weekend sweep of Merrimack. Senior forward Jesse Compher leads the way for BU with three goals.
SERIES HISTORY
This weekend will mark the 52nd and 53rd all-time meeting between the Catamounts and Terriers. Boston University won all three games against Vermont last season, including a 4-2 win at Walter Brown Arena on January 31, 2020 in the teams' last meeting. Vermont has a 9-35-7 record all-time against the Terriers. Vermont's last win at Walter Brown Arena came in a 5-1 decision on February 2, 2018.
HOCKEY EAST ANNOUNCES 2021 TOURNAMENT AND SEEDING FORMAT
The 2021 men's and women's tournaments will be a single-elimination format with each game hosted at the home arena of the higher seed. Additionally, the league announced seeding will be determined by a newly-developed mathematical formula dubbed the Hockey East Power Index. The Catamounts are currently third in the HEPI.
Following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, February 21, the women's Tournament will begin with two Opening Round games on Wednesday, February 24. The seventh-seeded program will host the 10 seed and the eight seed will welcome the nine seed while seeds 1-6 enjoy a bye into the quarterfinals. All remaining teams will be reseeded before the quarterfinal round on Sunday, February 28. Semifinals will take place on Wednesday, March 3 and the championship game will be held on Saturday, March 6 to determine the winner of the Bertagna Trophy.
SHOOTOUTS COME TO HOCKEY EAST
New this season in Hockey East games that are tied following a five minute three-on-three overtime will got to a shootout to decide the extra point in the league standings. A regulation league win is now worth three points, and overtime or shootout win is worth two points.
