BOSTON – After helping Vermont to its third straight weekend sweep, senior guard
Stef Smith has been named America East Player of the Week. The league made the announcement on Monday morning.

The weekly accolade is the first of Smith's career. The Ajax, Ontario product averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in a weekend sweep of Stony Brook. In the two-game set, he shot 54.0% (13-for-24) from the field.
The 6-2 sharp shooter dropped a game-high 22 points in Saturday's 86-78 win. He shot 7-of-12 from the floor and connected on a pair of triples. He also logged two assists and two steals. Smith capped off the weekend with 15 points as the Cats held on for a 61-57 victory on Sunday. The 15-point outing came on 6-of-12 shooting including three treys. He matched a season high with seven boards and four assists.
Smith made two three-pointers early in the first half of Sunday's game and climbed into the top 10 of the school's career three-pointers list. The senior has made 190 in his four-year career. This season, he paces the team with 24 triples and ranks second on the squad with a 13.6 scoring average.
Vermont has won its last seven games with a 9-3 record on the year. With first place in the league standings up for grabs, the Catamounts will visit UMBC on Thursday (Feb. 18) and Friday (Feb. 19).
