"It was wonderful to have teams here to compete with us today," said head Coach
Matt Belfield. "While we weren't able to run all of our women, Annemarie and Savanah ran very well to represent the Green & Gold. Their performances help show us where the rest of the team stands based upon recent workouts. I think the women can be competitive at America East when we are full strength."
Chris Gish was the Cats' top racer in fifth place at 23:27.90.
Matt Hynes was three seconds behind Gish in sixth place at 23:40.30.
Andrew Crompton claimed a top-10 finish in ninth place at 24:04.70.
Ian Denis earned an 11th-place finish at 24:11.20 and
Kasey Gelfand rounded out Vermont's scoring in 13th place at 24:37.70.
On the team leaderboard, the Catamounts had a combined time of 1:58:17.90 for 44 points. Binghamton ran slightly faster for an event-best time of 23:26.10 with 17 points.
"The men were very aggressive and a few of them turned in career best performances," Belfield added. "I love Matt's willingness to hammer the pace and he keeps getting better. Having Chris back for the season is a huge bonus too, and he's in great shape. Binghamton showed why they are ranked so high in the polls and will be tough to beat…I'm just glad we are back at it with a chance to have a championship meet in a couple weeks."
In the women's race,
Annemarie Martell grabbed a top-five spot after finishing fourth overall and third among NCAA qualified racers at 17:27.10.
Savanah Tebeau-Sherry placed 16th and was clocked at 19:04.10. Binghamton won the meet with a total team time of 1:28:21.50 and 22 points as Emily MacKay crossed the line in first place at 16:38.70.
Vermont will compete again at the America East Championship on Friday, March 5.
