SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Due to the special circumstances surrounding COVID-19 the Catamounts haven't faced Maine since last season. In addition, due to local regulations the Black Bears have played all of their games on the road this season amassing a 7-8-1 record.
Â
On the last weekend of the regular season they split a two-game set at Holy Cross. Falling 2-1 in the first game and winning a shootout after a 1-1 tie in the second game to secure the five-seed in the Hockey East Tournament.
Â
Maine is led by two players who joined UVM's
Maude Poulin-Labelle as Second Team All-Stars, senior goaltender Loryn Porter and sophomore forward Ida Kuoppala. Porter is a finalist for the inaugural Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. In her first season as the starting goalie for the Black Bears she has played every minute and boasts a 1.56 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage. Kuoppala had eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 14 games this year.
