COACH'S QUOTE
"I felt we started strong today and played quite well in the first and second quarters," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "We gave away too many possessions and lacked connection in the second half. But our players made some important defensive adjustments from the last match and those improvements will be key as we head into conference play."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The UVM defense stifled the BC attack early on, holding the Eagles to without a shot for the first opening 12 minutes. In the 13
th minute, Elizabeth Warner directed a shot wide, but tested
Sierra Espeland (4 saves) in the waning seconds of the opening quarter.
• Boston College was awarded a penalty corner opportunity in the 15
th minute and Fusine Govaert converted for her first goal of the season. Juliette Hildra and Margo Carlin assisted on the opening tally, which came with seven seconds left in the first quarter.
• Jaime Natale quickly doubled the lead shortly into the second frame off a redirect from just outside the Vermont goal. Margo Carlin was credited with the assist.
• The Catamounts responded with a flurry of shots directed at Jonna Kennedy (5 saves).
Kate Hall led the charge with a pair of shots on goal. Vermont registered five shots on goal in a span of 2:38, but entered the break in a 2-0 deficit.
• Boston College added an insurance marker in the fourth quarter when Sky Caron converted a penalty stroke goal. Espeland challenged the junior near the Catamounts' net, but it was ruled an infraction, yielding the opportunity to Caron in the 52
nd minute.
