BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The University of Vermont field hockey team placed 18 student-athletes on the 2020 NFHCA Division I National Academic team, it was announced this morning. It is the third straight year the Catamounts have had at least 15 student-athletes earn the distinction.

The Division I National Academic Squad program honors student-athlete who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.
This year, over 1,200 student-athletes from more than 75 Division 1 schools earn recognition.
Vermont is one of three America East teams to place at least 18 on the squad. Cal led the way with 23 selections and Monmouth matched the Catamounts with 18.
Additionally, seven Catamounts (
Sierra Espeland,
Peppe Haantjes,
Pleun Haantjes,
Taryn Marra,
Sydney Melfi,
Kailyn Myshrall and
Clare Sheahan) received NFHCA Academic Squad recognition for four consecutive years.
