The Vermont field hockey team plays its first home game since November of 2019 when UMass Lowell comes to town on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. contest at Moulton Winder Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Vermont controlled large stretches of play and created quality chances but couldn't find the final touch as Maine picked up a 2-0 win over UVM on Friday. The Black Bears and Cats played a scoreless first 30 minutes before Maine broke through early in the second half. Vermont directed five shots on goal – two by Maddie Moran – and Sierra Espeland made four saves.
 
ESPELAND'S STRONG START
Goalkeeper Sierra Espeland ranks second in America East with 4.80 saves per game – she's made 24 and has a 1.87 goals against average through five games.
 
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
UMass Lowell comes into Wednesday's match with a 4-3 record overall and a 2-2 mark against conference competition. The River Hawks fell to Monmouth, 1-0, on Friday. Clara Defourt paces the UMass Lowell attack with two goals and two assists for six points this season. As a team, UMass Lowell ranks fifth in the league with 1.57 goals per game. Eleonore Boekhorst - the reining America East Rookie of the Week - has played all 440 minutes in cage and boasts a 1.09 goals against average.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Wednesday will be the 22^nd all-time meeting between the Catamounts and River Hawks with UVM holding a 14-6-1 lead in the series. The Cats have won three straight against UMass Lowell including the last two by identical 2-1 finals in double overtime.
