TORONTO, Ont. - Former UVM men's basketball star
Trae Bell-Haynes '18 is one of 21 athletes who have accepted invitations to attend Canada's Senior Men's National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The camp will run June 16-24 in Tampa, Florida. 14 of the 21 players invited to the camp are current NBA players.

As a result of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and current quarantine protocols for training in Canada, the team will open training camp in Tampa at the Toronto Raptors temporary training facilities.
Bell-Haynes just wrapped up a very successful campaign with HARKO Merlins Crailsheim in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) in Germany. He averaged 16.8 points per game the fourth-most in the BBL and averaged a league-high 7.2 assists per game. His standout campaign helped Merkins Crailsheim make its first-ever postseason appearance.
The Toronto, Ontario native finished his UVM career in 2018 with 1,629 points and climbed to No. 8 on the program's all-time scoring list. The 6-2 guard cracked the top-five all-time with 518 career assists. He was a two-time America East Player of the Year and earned Associated Press (AP) Honorable Mention All-America honors as a junior and senior.
Canada is hosting one of four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments at the Victoria Memorial Arena in Victoria, B.C from June 29-July 4, 2021. Canada is in Group A for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and will face Greece (June 29 - 7:05 PM ET) and China (June 30 - 7:05 PM ET) in the Group Phase, while Uruguay, Czech Republic and Turkey have been drawn into Group B for the Victoria FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Each team will play the other two teams in its own group (two games for each team). The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals. The two semi-final winners will advance to the Final, with the winner qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
