BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont field hockey program officially announced its eight-member Class of 2025 this morning. The group features five American and three international student-athletes.

"These eight women have had an impressive first week on campus. They arrived physically prepared and are contributing in ways that are exceeding my expectations," head coach
Kate Pfeifer said. "I look forward to seeing how they continue to lift the team as we move through two test matches and continue to prepare for opening weekend."
Sophia Drees hails from Bremen Germany – one of two German first-years on the squad. She was a multi-sport athlete in high school and starred for the German U14 squads in 2015 and 2016. That group finished 4
th and 6
th at the U14 National Championships. She chose UVM because of the combination of athletics and academics.
Alina Gerke comes to Vermont by way of Hamburg, Germany and joins Drees as the first Germans to ever play field hockey at UVM. Her high school squad finished fourth in the German championships in 2018. She lists the coaching staff, UVM's academic reputation and the environment as her reasons for choosing UVM.
Reggie Hillery will begin her career this fall after four years of field hockey at Sayville High School on Long Island (N.Y.). She finished her Sayville career with 20 goals and 24 assists, was three-time team Most Valuable Player and was a two-time All-State selection in New York.
Molly Morris rounds out the international trio and joins the team from Scotland where she was a member of the U16, U18 and U19 national team. She also played for the Scottish national indoor team for the U14s, U16s and U18s. A multi-sport athlete at George Watson's College, Morris was a standout cross country/track and field performer winning the Scottish Prep School National 1500-meter championship in 2016.
Ellie Reed was a three-sport athlete at nearby Essex High School. She posted six goals and eight assists in 2020 on her way to being named the Metro Division Player of the Year and to the Burlington Free Press All-State team. Reed chose UVM because "[she] grew up going to UVM games and it has been a dream of [hers] to play for the Catamounts."
Lauren Schellhamer from New Tripoli, Pa., comes to Burlington after an illustrious high school career. She was team MVP and captain the last two seasons and a member of the PHSFHCA All-State Academic team the last three years. Her team won the District XI Class 1A Championship in 2019 and 2020 and the Colonial League title in 2020.
Bella Silvaggio was a two-time field hockey captain at Conestoga Valley High School (Pa.) and earned 1
st-Team All-State Pennsylvania Class 2A as a senior. She chose UVM because "[she] felt like [she] could accomplisher all of [her] field hockey and academic goals in one of the most beautiful cities in the country."
Meg Weyer joins Silvaggio and Schellhamer as brand-new Catamounts from Pennsylvania. After moving from Longmeadow, Mass. during high school, she was a Suburban One League Honorable Mention selection and was the recipient of the PHSFHCA All-State Individual GPA Award in 2020. Weyer was also an all-state track performer in Massachusetts and chose UVM because of the campus and team atmosphere.
