John Becker has hired
Bryson Johnson as an assistant coach. The announcement was made on Thursday morning. Johnson joined the Catamounts in July after spending last season in the same position at George Mason.
"I'm really excited to add Bryson to my coaching staff," said Becker. "He was a great college player at Bucknell and has worked with some terrific coaches. He will connect with our players and allow us to continue to grow our program. Bryson is a great addition to Catamount Country!"
Johnson has spent five out of the last six seasons with the Patriots under former coach Dave Paulsen. He served as a graduate manager from 2015-17 then became an assistant coach at Brown for the 2017-18 campaign. He returned to George Mason to pursue his doctorate in higher education in summer 2018, before assuming his assistant coach position in 2020.
As a student-athlete, he was a four-year standout from 2009-13 and two-year captain at Bucknell under the leadership of Paulsen. He guided the Bison to two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2013 plus a trip to the NIT in 2012. Johnson was a member of a Bison squad that recorded three straight Patriot League regular season championships and was the winningest class at their time of graduation, posting a 92-41 record. In the record books, he scored 1,384 career points, 11
th in program history, and earned Second Team All-League recognition in addition to Patriot League All-Tournament Team and Patriot League All-Rookie Team honors. Johnson was a two-time recipient of the Malcolm E. Musser Award for Leadership and was presented with the John F. Zeller Award as a senior.
Following graduation, Johnson played professionally with the Fraport Skyliners in Germany and spent a year playing in the NBL Canadian Basketball league.
A 2013 graduate from Bucknell with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Johnson was a two-time Student Athletic Committee member and member of the Bucknell Leadership Academy. A strong student off the court, Johnson twice earned Capital One Academic All-District Team accolades in addition to being a two-time Academic All Northeast Region and three-time Academic All-League honoree. He was also a member of the Student Choices Committee and involved in numerous community service outreach opportunities.
