BOSTON – The Vermont women's hockey team has been selected sixth overall in the 2021-22 Hockey East Preseason Coaches Poll. The league made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

The Catamounts' preseason ranking is their highest since 2017 when they earned the fifth overall ranking. Vermont received 52 points in the poll. Reigning three-time Hockey East champions Northeastern who received 90 points and a unanimous nine first place votes. Providence (75 pts.) received the other first place vote to rank second. Boston College (70 pts.), UConn (67 pts.), and Boston University (59 pts.) rounded out the top five.
UVM posted a 6-5 (6-4 HEA) record in the COVID-19 altered 2020-21 season to finish fourth in the conference regular season standings. The Catamounts return their three highest scorers from a season ago with

Jessie McPherson returns to the Vermont net after posting a .938 SV% and 1.57 GAA a season ago.
Vermont faces crosstown counterpart St. Michael's on Saturday (Sep. 25) for an exhibition game at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m. The Catamounts' regular season opens up on Friday, October 1 when they host RPI at 6 p.m. Vermont begins Hockey East play on October 22 when it hosts Holy Cross, 6 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
