BOSTON – UVM guard
Ben Shungu has been named America East Co-Player of the Week after his career-high 29 points on national television Thursday night against New Hampshire. The league announced its weekly awards on Monday.
Shungu converted on 11-of-16 attempts from the field to lead the Catamounts to an 82-68 victory over the Wildcats at Patrick Gym. The senior bested his previous career-high by two points – Shungu posted 27 points at No. 21 Maryland in November. Shungu's 11 field goals were also the most in his career. The graduate student drilled 4-of-6 attempts from long range, which matched a career-high.
Shungu also added a game-high four assists and two steals as Vermont hosted the league's annual ESPNU game.
The South Burlington, Vermont native earns the America East Player of the Week honor for the second time this season, and first time since November 15.
Vermont returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 12) when it hosts Stony Brook in an America East battle at Patrick Gym.
